Hong Kong man robbed of HK$70,000 necklace after drinks with woman he met in Wan Chai
Victim woke up alone on beach to find jewellery and HK$6,500 in cash missing
Police are searching for a Chinese woman after a middle-aged Hong Kong man fell asleep while having drinks with her only to find his HK$70,000 (US$9,000) gold necklace and about HK$6,500 in cash missing when he woke up.
The Mandarin-speaking woman is thought to be aged between 40 and 50. According to police, she was wearing a red dress at the time of the incident and was described as petite, according to one police source.
The victim, 48, a manager at a property agency, met the woman on Lockhart Road near the junction with Fenwick Street, in Wan Chai at about 3am on Tuesday. He had returned to the city about two hours earlier from a business trip in Shenzhen and had been drinking with friends.
A police source said the man was heavily drunk when he was approached by the woman on the street.
The pair went to a nearby convenience store to buy more beer before taking a taxi to Deep Water Bay Beach on Island Road, Aberdeen for drinks and a chat.
“Half an hour after they reached the beach, he drank some beer and fell asleep,” the source said.
When he woke about three hours later, the woman was gone along with the man’s necklace and HK$3,000 and 3,000 yuan (HK$3,500) in cash.
The victim sought help from a passer-by who called police at 7.56am. Officers mounted a search but no arrest was made.
Another police source said officers would investigate all possibilities, such as whether the victim had been drugged.
The man, who was uninjured, was taken to Ruttonjee Hospital in Wan Chai for examination.
The source said it was possible the woman looked for drunk targets in Wan Chai.
He said police would look into whether there were similar cases and any other victims who had not sought help from police.
The sources said that in the past, some mainland Chinese women had used the promise of sex to trap and rob their victims after taking them to guest houses in the city.
